My boyfriend is abusive. What should I do?

My boyfriend says he loves me, and I love him, but he has a bad temper and sometimes he gets physically violent with me. He struggles with depression, so I don’t want to leave him and hurt him more, but I don’t feel safe anymore.

I know this isn’t easy to hear, but you need to get out of the relationship.

Being in even one abusive relationship in your teens can cause you to expect that type of behavior as an adult. It can lead to you getting into an abusive marriage and suffering for the rest of your life. Statistics show that the longer someone stays in an abusive relationship the harder it is to get out and nobody deserves to be abused.

Your boyfriend’s past is no excuse. He needs to get professional help for that. In this case, you do deserve better. Nobody should ever be in or stay in an abusive relationship.
