Believe it or not, Internet memes aren’t that new.
If you were born in the year 2000, you actually lived during the era of one of the first Internet memes that went viral. The Internet was a lot different 17 years ago. It hadn’t made its way to cell pones yet, and computers were still fairly expensive, so not everybody had the Internet in their homes.
But, if you ask your parents about the Dancing Baby, and they will probably smile with a flash of recognition and tell you what they remember of one of the Internet’s first viral sensations.
The Dancing Baby was a computer generated animation of a baby dancing around. We’re not sure why it was popular, but it was probably because it was one of the more life-like animations of the time.
The smooth grooving baby was so popular that he was the top-selling “cyberstar” that year. His image could be found on T-shirts, screen-savers and CDs, and of course, dolls.
